Everything you need to know about the treatment of vasodilatation by laser

Here you will find all the important information about the treatment of vascular dilatation by laser by dermatologist DR. MEK in Berlin-Charlottenburg.

Most vascular dilatations are usually harmless from a medical point of view. Many patients find dilated blood vessels such as port-wine stains, spider veins, haemangiomas, couperose or telangiectasias unattractive and disturbing, especially when they appear on the face or in the cleavage area.

The occurrence of vascular dilatation can have many causes. Risk factors include age, smoking, vascular calcification (atherosclerosis), family predisposition, connective tissue diseases, trauma or inflammation. Statistically, mainly men over the age of 50 are affected by vasodilatation.

The dilated blood vessels are targeted with the laser. The laser beams cause the blood in the treated blood vessels to clot, so that they close and stick together. After a while, the body naturally breaks down the vessels and dissolves them.

With our laser device, both punctual and extensive treatment is possible. Even the smallest vessels can be closed without problems.

In our practice we work with the laser “Alma Harmony XL Pro”, one of the best medical lasers available on the market. The state-of-the-art device offers a tailored treatment solution for every skin type and patient age group thanks to numerous combination therapies.

The Alma Harmony XL Pro is approved for 65 medical and cosmetic treatments and accordingly has a wide range of applications. In addition to the treatment of vasodilatation, these include the removal of scars and pigment spots as well as the treatment of acne. It can also be used for skin rejuvenation and permanent hair removal.

Extensive clinical studies have proven each technique and treatment with our type of laser to be safe to conduct by a trained medical professional.

First, we take a detailed look at your medical history and examine your skin, your skin type and its condition and the extent of the vasodilatation in order to individually determine the correct setting of the laser.

Please inform us which medications you have taken before the treatment, as some medications can make the skin more sensitive to light and this must be taken into account accordingly.

One session lasts about 30 minutes. The number of required sessions depends on the type and extent and the vasodilatation. As a rule, 2 to 4 sessions at intervals of about 4 to 6 weeks are sufficient.

Treatment with the laser is relatively painless. Nevertheless, we apply anaesthetic cream to the affected skin area before almost every laser therapy to make the treatment as comfortable as possible for you.

The treatment is gentle on the skin and leaves no scars. The laser only operates in the area where an effect is desired. The surrounding tissue is therefore not affected. In addition, you require little or no downtime after the treatment. However, the use of the laser can cause redness and skin irritation in the treated area, whichusually disappear within 7 to 14 days. We usually apply a soothing cream after the treatment.

For the first few days after the treatment, refrain from strenuous activities that make you sweat, as the sweat on the treated area may burn.

In addition, you should protect the treated areas from sunlight with sun cream (sun protection factor 50) for the first 4 weeks after the treatment. The optimal time for laser therapy are therefore the autumn and winter months.

The price for a session for self-payers starts from 250 Euros. If you are privately insured, you can check with your private health insurance if they would cover the treatment costs.
